“Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.”

– Colossians 1:28-29 (KJV)

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

– Mark 16:15

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

– Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV)

As these verses explain, the mission that Jesus has given us is twofold. First, He sent us to preach the good news of who He is and of what He has done. Second, He sent us to make disciples by teaching those who believe in Him to do the things that He taught us. A true disciple is a believer who follows Jesus and becomes like Him by continuing in His Word and by following the leading of the Holy Spirit. This assignment of preaching the good news and making disciples, known as the Great Commission, is the source of our vision and it is the mission of our local church.
