“O God, God of Israel, there is no God like you in the skies above or on the earth below who unswervingly keeps covenant with his servants and relentlessly loves them as they sincerely live in obedience to your way. You kept your word to David my father, your personal word. You did exactly what you promised—every detail.” – 1 Kings 8:23-24 (MSG)

Have you ever had a wrong impression of someone? A time when maybe you thought something about a person but then after you met them you realized they were not at all what you had expected? I have definitely had those experiences! Sometimes people can have the wrong idea about who you really are. Their impression of you could be based on what they have heard others say or on misinformation. In those instances, don’t you want people to know the truth about who you really are?

Similarly, there are many people today who have the wrong impression of God, where their view of Him has been based on what they have heard others say or on misinformation. I believe that His desire is that people discover the truth regarding who He really is. So, how can we find out what’s true about God in order to set the record straight? Jesus said in the Gospel of John that the Scriptures found in the Bible reveal truth unto us. In other words, they show us what’s actually real about God!

We see in the Bible that when a person believes in Jesus, their relationship with God changes forever. They become His child and become the recipient of His love, grace, mercy and goodness. Sadly, there are many who believe in Jesus but still see God the same way that they used to and, as a result of their wrong impressions, they are not enjoying the amazing new relationship they now have with their Heavenly Father.

I want to encourage you to allow the Bible to completely redefine your view of who God really is. Now, because of Jesus, He loves you faithfully and relentlessly and He has a good plan for your future. The truth is that His love is an unrelenting force that has been pursuing you. He has not forgotten about you! He wants to demonstrate His love in your life and He just needs you to believe and to receive this powerful love that He has for you.

Let’s decide today to lay aside every wrong impression of God and to get to know Him in a deeper way… according to who He truly is — Love Himself, the God of all grace and the Father of mercies who is relentless in His love for us!

“Let everything you do be done in love, true love to God and man as inspired by God’s love for us.” – 1 Corinthians 16:14 (Amp)

We see in this verse of scripture that when a person focuses on God’s love for them it inspires something within them… true love for God and for people. Our love for God is to be a response to His love for us. The Bible states in 1 John 4:19, “We love him, because he first loved us.” Notice, He loved us first! Let’s think about that for a moment. Before you were born, while you were in your mother’s womb, then as a child and throughout every day of your life since, including today, He has been loving you! Sadly, many are oblivious to the reality of this love. They may have heard about religious concepts and traditions, but unless they have come to know for themselves this amazing love, their lives will lack the necessary power and inspiration to truly flourish.

So, how do we know that God loves us? Is there any evidence? The answers to those questions are found when an individual discovers the reality of what Jesus has accomplished. In other words, we don’t have to be unsure as to whether or not God truly loves us because He has clearly proven it!

“God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.” – Romans 5:8 (AMP)

“In this the love of God was made manifest (displayed) where we are concerned: in that God sent His Son, the only begotten or unique [Son], into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins. Beloved, if God loved us so very much, we also ought to love one another. No man has at any time [yet] seen God. But if we love one another, God abides (lives and remains) in us and His love (that love which is essentially His) is brought to completion (to its full maturity, runs its full course, is perfected) in us!” – 1 John 4:9-12 (AMP)

I want to encourage you today that the same God, who created the universe and everything that we can see, knows you and He wants you to know and to be reminded that He loves you. As you receive His unconditional love today, you will be inspired to live life on a higher level, to walk closer with God than you ever have before and to love people with the love that you are loved with!

God has a plan for your life… a plan of increase. He wants you to see beyond where you are to His plan for your future. He wants you to come to Him and receive a fresh vision of what He has in store for you. Job 8:7 begins with these words, “Though thy beginning was small”. You might look at where you’re at in life right now and say, “I’m in a small place”. God’s saying to you that no matter where you’re at right now, no matter what you may be facing at the moment, there is hope for your future. He has a plan for you to greatly increase.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” – Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

In Jeremiah 29:11, we see that God desires to prosper you. It goes on to say that He has a hope, a future and an expected end for you. The “end” He has planned is not a small ending. It’s an ending of increase, blessing, prosperity, peace and goodness! This is the will of your Heavenly Father. The word increase has been defined as becoming greater in number, size, strength and quality. Notice that increase is not only becoming greater in quantity but also in quality. In other words, when you experience God’s increase it means that areas of your life begin to rise, things come up to new levels and you enter into new places of blessing.

Do you believe that your latter end could greatly increase? Do you believe that you could go beyond where you’ve been into greater days? I sincerely believe that your best days are in front of you, not behind you. I want to encourage you today to dream new dreams and to expect big things in life. Allow these verses to stir your heart concerning God’s plan for you. Dare to believe that He is able to do things that you’ve never seen before. Get ready, because though your beginning may have been small, yet your latter end will greatly increase!

I believe God wants us to be reminded of His ability today. I believe He wants us to be reminded of how able He is. Webster’s Dictionary defines able as “having sufficient power, strength, force, skill, means, or resources of any kind to accomplish the object”. Well, how able is our Heavenly Father? Is He able to do big things where we are concerned? I’m talking about His plan and purpose for our lives. What is God able to do?

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21 (KJV)

We see in Ephesians 3:20 that our Father is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think! Think about your future. Think about where you are going. I’m talking about this year, 2012. His plans for you are awesome… His plans for you are amazing. They are “exceedingly abundantly above all that you could ask or think” plans! It is for this reason He wants you and I to enlarge our vision. He wants us to elevate our thinking. He wants us to think bigger than we’ve ever thought before and to dare to conceptualize all that He can, and will, do in us and through us in this coming year! Our God is truly able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think.

Could you and I experience things this year that we’ve never experienced before? Stop and think about your life for a moment. For those of you who are married, could your marriage go to new levels this year in ways that you never dreamt were possible? Could there be such restoration and such blessing in your life that one year from now you would say “what I thought was impossible has come to pass… it’s like I’m dreaming… what’s happening right now in my life is so wonderful!” How could this happen? Because of what God is able to do. I’m not talking about what you’re able to do. I’m talking about what God is able to do. I used marriage as an example, but think about every realm of your life. Think about your physical health. Think about your mental and emotional well being. Think about your financial goals and dreams. What is God able to do? What could He do through us together as a local church? Does God want to get the gospel out like never before? Does He want us to reach more people than we’ve ever reached before? See more salvations? More people filled with the Spirit? More people healed and set free? More people walking in the power of God? YES! Amen!

Our Heavenly Father is desiring to do glorious things in your future and in mine. I believe He wants us to make a declaration, to make a decision and to draw a line in the sand and say, “Father, I’m not going to hold back. I’m not going to limit You with small thinking. I’m not going to limit what You are desiring to do. I choose to believe that with my God all things are possible. I choose to look to my future and to see myself standing in Your plan and to see myself walking forward in that path of increase and blessing that You have for my life!”

“Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.”  (Isaiah 42:9)

Throughout the Bible, time and time again we see God do new and wonderful things in the lives of His people. Many times these new seasons of experiencing God’s power and grace would begin with God giving His people a new name. In the Old Testament, Abram’s name was changed to Abraham, Sarai’s was changed to Sarah, and Jacob’s to Israel. In the New Testament, the Lord changed Simon’s name to Peter and Saul’s name to Paul. After receiving their new name, each of these individuals entered into new seasons of increased fruitfulness, favor and blessing. They saw God’s promises fulfilled and they began to be used by God more than ever before to do His will and to impact their generation!

Exactly one year ago, after taking time to seek God and to pray concerning His will for Chicagoland Family Church, the Lord began to stir my heart concerning His vision and plan for us as a local church.   During those times of prayer, Melissa and I were challenged to think bigger than what we ever had before and to see far beyond where we had been.   We came away from that time changed and we began to see changes that we needed to make as a ministry.  One of those changes was a complete “re-launch” of the church within one year, changing our name and logo, for the purpose of touching more lives than ever before with the life changing message of Jesus Christ.

These changes that I just mentioned are becoming a reality.  On March 20th, 2011, the first day of spring, we began a new season as a local church with a new name…  “Oswego Family Church”.   We believe that this change is very purposeful and that it marks the beginning of a new season of increased fruitfulness, favor, and blessing as we advance the Kingdom of God and the Message of our Lord Jesus.

The name Oswego is actually a Mohawk Indian word which means a “place of outpouring” and it was used to describe the mouth of a river.  The name is certainly fitting for our village located along the Fox River.  In a spiritual sense, we believe that Oswego Family Church will be a place of “spiritual outpouring” where individuals and families will come to be encouraged, refreshed and strengthened by the power of God!
